This private garden was founded by Fernando Riviere de Caralt in 1945, with additional plantings added later. Prior to 1977 the garden was closed to the public, though Senor Riviere often invited scientists and other researchers to study plants in the collection. Particularly impressive are the huge beds of Echinocactus grusonii and various species of opuntioids. Unfortunately, following the death of Senor Riviere in 1992, the collection has become simply one of display, with numerous labels and other important data lost. Nonetheless, many undescribed Opunti-oideae are in the collection, and research on them is needed.
